The U.S. Trade and Development Agency announced Wednesday a grant of $512,950 toward development of a transshipment facility at Port Sabang, Aceh Province, Indonesia.
The grant will provide money for a technical and economic feasibility study for the proposed oil and container terminals.
The port is on Weh Island, on the northern coast of Sumatra, close to the Straits of Malacca. The Sabang Free Port Authority has hired TEC Inc. of Charlottesville, Va., to conduct a study.
Last April, Dublin Port Co. agreed to a joint venture with the Indonesian government to build a $900-million terminal at Sabang, featuring an 8,200-foot pier and channel 72 feet deep
